This Privacy Policy describes how your information is handled when you use the Bag Lab mobile application (the "App").

1. Information We Collect

To provide our services, we collect the following types of information:

Player Profile Data: Golf-related information you enter into the App, such as handicap, average score, swing speed, carry distances, swing tendencies, goals, and brand preferences.

Club Information: The names, specifications, and details of the golf clubs you add to your bag within the App, including brand, model, loft, shaft, and purchase year.

Chat Messages: Messages you type in the Lab Assistant chat feature, which are used to generate personalized equipment advice.

Sign in with Apple: You may optionally sign in using Sign in with Apple to access premium features. When you sign in, we receive an anonymous user identifier from Apple. We do not receive your real name or email address unless you choose to share them. This identifier is stored locally on your device to manage your account entitlements.

We do not collect your email address, precise location, or any other personal information beyond what you voluntarily enter into the App.

2. How We Use Your Information

The data you provide is used exclusively to deliver the core functionality of the App, which includes:

  • Performing bag analysis, gap detection, and distance projections across your set of clubs.

  • Generating physics-based equipment, shaft, and golf ball recommendations.

  • Providing personalized AI-powered equipment advice through the Lab Assistant chat feature.

  • Displaying your data back to you for your personal analysis.

  • Managing your account entitlements and subscription status.

3. Data Storage

All player profile data, club information, analysis results, and chat history are stored locally on your device. The App does not maintain user accounts or store your data on any external server or cloud database. If you delete the App, your data is removed from your device.

You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the App under Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes all locally stored data including your profile, bag, chat history, and account credentials.

4. Third-Party AI Services

The App includes an optional Lab Assistant feature powered by OpenAI's API. When you use the Lab Assistant chat, the following data may be transmitted to OpenAI to generate a response:

  • Chat messages: The text of your question or message.

  • Player and equipment context: A summary of your swing profile, equipment bag, fitting preferences, optimization analysis, and relevant catalog data. This context helps the AI provide equipment-specific advice rather than generic answers.

This data is transmitted securely via HTTPS through a server-side proxy. It is not linked to any user identity, is not used for tracking or advertising, and is not stored by Bag Lab on any server. OpenAI's handling of transmitted data is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy and API Data Usage Policy.

No data is sent to OpenAI unless you actively use the Lab Assistant chat feature. All other app features (optimization score, equipment explorer, gap map, ball fitting) operate entirely on-device.

If you provide your own OpenAI API key in Settings, your requests are sent directly to OpenAI using your key instead of through our proxy.

5. Subscriptions

Bag Lab offers an optional auto-renewable yearly subscription ("Bag Lab Premium") for $19.99 per year. Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information. Subscription status is managed locally on your device through Apple's StoreKit framework.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise share your information with third-party companies for marketing or advertising purposes. The only third-party data transmission is the optional Lab Assistant feature described in Section 4.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If any future feature introduces new data collection, storage, or sharing practices, we will update this Privacy Policy before that feature is released and clearly describe how your information is handled. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
